The Poznań-Berlin route is one of our most popular foreign transfers. Distance approx. 280 km, A2 motorway throughout the Polish part and Bundesautobahn 12 on the German side. Straight on paper. In practice — a few things worth knowing before booking.
Actual travel time
Google Maps says 2h 45min. Realistically:3h 15min to 3h 45minwith normal traffic. Why?
- Świecko/Frankfurt (Oder) border crossing — 10-25 minutes depending on the time of day and day of the week. Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons are the peaks — up to 40 minutes
- Road works on the A12 (German side) — will last a few years, speed limits to 60-80 km/h on long sections
- Berlin inside — no peripheral highway when entering from the east, city traffic adds 20-30 minutes
Border crossing — what really takes the longest
Poland is in Schengen, Germany too — so technically there is no passport control. In practice, the Bundespolizei carries out random inspections, especially when truck traffic is heavy. In a representative car with passengers, arrests are rare — but it is worth having an ID card available.
Bridges on the Oder have limited capacity — and this is the main reason for queues, not inspections.
Autobahn — what is allowed and what is not
The section of the A12 in Germany has no speed limits in places. In the Mercedes S-Class on the unlimited Autobahn we reach 160-180 km/h with comfortable driving. The time on this section is shortened by several minutes compared to driving at 130 km/h.
Important: in cars with a driver, the driver decides on the speed. This is not a taxi in which a passenger can demand 200 km/h.
Driver's rest
For transfers longer than 4.5 hours, the driver is legally obliged to take a 45-minute break. On the Poznań-Berlin route, we usually do it at the Pniewy MOP or on the German side at the Shell station near the border. When booking, we include this time in the travel calculation.
What is not included in standard price lists — and what it costs
- Highway vignettes — Poland: A2 payable on the Polish side, approx. PLN 30-50. Germany: Autobahn free for passenger cars
- Parking in Berlin — Berlin city center is a 24/7 paid parking zone. Transfer to the main entrance of the destination, without waiting in the parking lot
- Umweltzone fee — Berlin city center requires a green environmental sticker (Umweltplakette). Our vehicles have it
